Product overview
About Daktarin 2% Cream 30g
The antifungal that also handles the bacteria: miconazole 2% treats athlete's foot, ringworm, jock itch, sweat rash, fungal nappy rash and infected nail folds, and unlike most antifungals it kills the Gram-positive bacteria that turn a fungal rash into a weeping, smelly one. The 30g tube covers a full course on the feet or body. Pharmacy pack with the P mark, for all ages.
Daktarin or Daktarin Aktiv
Daktarin Aktiv on the shelf is the same miconazole licensed for athlete's foot only. This pharmacy pack is licensed for the full range of fungal skin infections and for the bacterial infection that often sits on top, which is why it comes with a short questionnaire. If the rash is cracked, oozing or smells, this is the one.
How to use
Wash and dry the area, then rub in a thin layer twice a day. Courses run two to six weeks depending on the site: athlete's foot and ringworm take the longest. Keep going for at least a week after the skin looks clear, and ten days for nail folds. For athlete's foot, dry between the toes and treat both feet; a dusting of Daktarin powder in socks and shoes helps stop it returning.
Good to know
Suitable for babies' nappy rash and adults' delicate skin alike. Keep it away from the eyes. Tell the pharmacist if you take warfarin. No improvement after four weeks, or an infection of the nail itself or the scalp, needs a pharmacist or GP. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference from Canesten?
Both treat fungal skin infections. Daktarin's miconazole also kills the Gram-positive bacteria that infect broken, sweaty skin, so it suits rashes that have become weepy or smelly.
How long should I use it?
Two to six weeks depending on the site, and always a week beyond the point the skin looks normal; ten days for nail folds.
Why the 30g?
Athlete's foot on both feet for six weeks, or ringworm on the body, uses more than 15g. It's also the economical choice for a household where athlete's foot keeps returning.
