Incontinence is the accidental leaking of urine (or, less commonly, bowel movements), and it becomes more common with age. It can be caused by weak pelvic floor muscles, an overactive bladder, pregnancy and childbirth, prostate problems in men, or certain conditions and medicines - and it is often treatable, so it is worth seeing your GP.
Stress incontinence is when small amounts of urine leak during activities that put pressure on the bladder, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising. It is usually linked to a weakened pelvic floor, and pelvic floor exercises often help, so ask your GP or a physiotherapist.
