Pharmacy medicine — pharmacist review
You'll answer a short set of questions before this can be added to your basket, and our pharmacist reviews every order before it is dispatched.
10% is the step-up strength — ages 12+
Start acne treatment on 2.5% or 5% benzoyl peroxide; move to 10% only if the 5% gel is well tolerated but hasn't cleared the spots. Not for under-12s.
Bleaches fabric and hair — avoid eyes and sun
Benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair, towels, bedding and coloured clothing on contact; wash hands after use. Keep away from eyes, mouth, nostrils and broken skin. Skin becomes more sun-sensitive: use SPF 30 or higher and avoid sunbeds.
Some dryness and peeling is normal
Mild redness, dryness, stinging and peeling are common in the first weeks; use once daily or on alternate days until the skin settles. Stop and seek advice if swelling, blistering or severe irritation develops. Don't combine with other benzoyl peroxide products without advice.

Product overview

About Acnecide 10% Gel

The strongest Acnecide: benzoyl peroxide 10% in a leave-on gel for persistent acne that hasn't cleared on the 5% strength. Benzoyl peroxide kills up to 95% of the bacteria behind spots within days and unblocks the pores where blackheads and whiteheads start. Pharmacy-only strength, for ages 12 and over. 30g tube.

When to step up to 10%

Benzoyl peroxide works at every strength; the higher the strength, the more it dries and peels. The licence is clear: start on 2.5% or 5%, and move to 10% only when the 5% gel is well tolerated but hasn't done enough. If you're new to benzoyl peroxide, Acnecide 5% Gel is the place to begin.

How to use

Once a day, or as your pharmacist directs: wash and dry the skin, then smooth a thin layer over the whole affected area, not just individual spots. Ease off to alternate days if the skin dries or peels too much, then build back up. Give it four to six weeks to judge the result.

Good to know

Keep it away from eyes, mouth, nostrils and broken skin. Benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair, towels and pillowcases, so use white bedding and wash hands after applying. It makes skin sun-sensitive: use SPF 30 or more. Stop and seek advice if the skin swells or blisters. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
