Pharmacy medicine — pharmacist review
You'll answer a short set of questions before this can be added to your basket, and our pharmacist reviews every order before it is dispatched.
Hydrocortisone — 7 days max, ages 10+
Use for no more than seven days, then switch to a plain antifungal cream or powder to finish the course. Not for under-10s, the face, eyes, mouth or broken skin, or large areas of skin, and not in pregnancy without advice. Don't cover with a dressing.
Warfarin and other blood thinners
Miconazole and ketoconazole can increase the effect of warfarin and other vitamin K antagonists, even applied to the skin. Tell the pharmacist if you take a blood thinner; you may need an extra INR check.
Keep going after it looks better
Fungal infections come back if treatment stops early: continue for at least a week after the skin looks clear (ten days for nail-fold infections). Keep away from the eyes. It can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. See a pharmacist or GP if there's no improvement after four weeks, or if the scalp or nails themselves are involved.

Product overview

About Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream

Antifungal and anti-inflammatory in one tube: miconazole kills the fungus and the bacteria that often join it, while hydrocortisone calms the itching, redness and soreness of inflamed athlete's foot and sweat rash in skin folds within a day or two. For the first week of treatment only, in adults and children over 10. 15g, pharmacy-only.

When to use the hydrocortisone version

Plain Daktarin clears the infection but takes a few days to touch the itch. If the skin between the toes or under a fold is angry, weeping and keeping you awake, seven days of Daktacort settles it fast, then plain Daktarin cream or powder finishes the course without the steroid. It's the same pairing a GP would prescribe.

How to use

Wash and dry the area, then rub in a thin layer twice a day for up to seven days. As soon as the inflammation has settled, switch to a miconazole-only product and keep treating for at least a week after the skin looks normal.

Good to know

Not for under-10s, the face, eyes, mouth or broken skin, over large areas, under a dressing, or in pregnancy without advice. Tell the pharmacist if you take warfarin. It can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
