Product overview

About Zarbee's Adult Cough & Sore Throat Syrup

A cough syrup built on honey rather than a drug: pure honey and ivy-leaf extract in a glycerol base that coats the throat, calms the tickle and soothes the irritation behind a cough, with naturally sourced ingredients and no drowsy actives. CE-marked as a medical device. For adults and children from 12. 250ml bottle.

Why honey and ivy leaf

Honey is the one cough remedy the NHS actually recommends, because trials show it reduces cough frequency and severity, especially at night, better than many syrups. Ivy leaf extract is a traditional herbal for the chest, and glycerol is the demulcent that gives a linctus its coating effect. Together they soothe a dry, tickly or irritating cough physically, which is why Zarbee's can be used alongside paracetamol, a decongestant or any other cold medicine without a drug interaction.

How to take

Adults and children over 12: measure the dose on the pack and take it as needed, up to the daily maximum stated, including a dose at bedtime for a night-time cough. Shake before use. Not for under-12s; Zarbee's makes a children's version for 1 to 12.

Good to know

Not for anyone allergic to bee products, and it contains sugar from honey, so allow for it with diabetes. A cough lasting more than three weeks, or with breathlessness, chest pain or blood, needs a GP. Also in a 150ml bottle; for a chesty cough with phlegm, Robitussin is the expectorant.
