Why hardened wax needs more than oil
Olive oil softens wax and works well when it's caught early. Once wax has gone hard and impacted, softening alone often isn't enough, and that's where the urea hydrogen peroxide in Otex earns its place: it releases oxygen that breaks the plug apart from within, so it can work its way out naturally.
How to use
Lie with the affected ear upward, apply the drops as directed on the pack, and stay put for a few minutes. Expect some fizzing — that is the product working, not a fault. Use for the number of days on the label, no longer.
Good to know
Never use ear drops if your eardrum might be perforated, or if you have grommets. And never use cotton buds to “help” — they push wax deeper and cause most of the impactions we see. Ear pain or discharge means a pharmacist, not more drops.
