About Nurofen for Children Orange
Nurofen for Kids is an orange-flavour ibuprofen oral suspension (100mg/5ml) for fever and pain relief in children from 3 months to 9 years. Sugar free and colour free, it comes with a dosing syringe for accurate measuring, and a single dose can ease fever and pain for hours — including overnight, which is when it earns its keep. 100ml bottle.
What it treats
As a children's ibuprofen it reduces fever — including post-immunisation temperatures — and relieves pain: teething, toothache, sore throats, earache, headaches, and general aches from colds and flu. Ibuprofen is also anti-inflammatory, which helps where swelling is part of the pain, such as sore throats and sprains.
How to give it
Shake well and measure with the syringe provided, following the dose for your child's age on the pack. Doses are spaced 6 to 8 hours apart with a maximum of 3 doses in 24 hours, ideally given with or after food. Babies aged 3–6 months should weigh over 5kg — check the pack guidance. Don't combine with any other ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medicine.
When to see a doctor
Speak to a GP or 111 if fever lasts more than 3 days, your child is under 6 months, symptoms worsen, or your child has chickenpox (ibuprofen is generally avoided with chickenpox — use paracetamol instead). Seek urgent help for a rash that doesn't fade under a glass, breathing difficulty or unusual drowsiness.

Frequently asked questions
Is Nurofen the same as ibuprofen?
Yes — Nurofen is a brand of ibuprofen. This children's version contains ibuprofen 100mg per 5ml. Never combine it with any other ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medicine.
Nurofen or Calpol — which should I give?
Either treats pain and fever: Calpol is paracetamol, this is ibuprofen. Ibuprofen adds an anti-inflammatory effect and doses last 6–8 hours; paracetamol is preferred with chickenpox, tummy troubles or dehydration. If one alone isn't controlling things, ask a pharmacist about alternating.
Can you give Calpol and Nurofen together?
Not at the same moment as a routine — but because they're different medicines, NHS guidance allows alternating them if fever or pain returns before the next dose is due. Track times and doses of each carefully.
How long does Nurofen take to work?
Fever typically starts dropping within 15–30 minutes, and one dose can keep working for up to 8 hours — which is why many parents use it for overnight fevers.
What age is it suitable from?
From 3 months (weighing over 5kg) up to 9 years, with the dose for each age on the pack. For babies under 3 months, see a GP rather than self-treating.
Is it sugar free?
Yes — sugar free and colour free, with an orange flavour most children accept readily.
