Product overview
About Golden Eye Antibiotic Ointment
Chloramphenicol 1% in a sterile eye ointment: the antibiotic treatment for acute bacterial conjunctivitis, from the Golden Eye range. A ribbon inside the lower lid keeps antibiotic on the eye for hours — ideal overnight alongside drops, or as a stand-alone course for anyone who can't manage drops. 4g tube, adults and children over 2.
Ointment vs drops
Drops act fast but drain away; ointment blurs vision for a few minutes but stays put. The classic routine is drops by day and ointment at bedtime; used alone, the ointment is applied three or four times a day. Either way, the course is five days — finished even once the eye looks clear.
How to use
Pull the lower lid down gently, squeeze a small ribbon of ointment along the inside, close the eye and blink. At night with drops, or three to four times daily alone, for five days. Wash hands before and after; keep the nozzle off the eye.
Good to know
Contact lenses stay out for the course and 24 hours after. Not for under-2s or anyone with a personal or family history of blood disorders. No improvement in 48 hours, pain or light sensitivity means a same-day pharmacist, optician or GP.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the ointment on its own?
Yes — three to four times a day for five days. Or at bedtime alongside chloramphenicol drops for round-the-clock cover.
Will it blur my vision?
For a few minutes after each application — which is why night-time use is convenient. Don't drive until it clears.
Golden Eye Drops or this ointment?
The drops are an antiseptic for minor infections; this ointment is the antibiotic for confirmed bacterial conjunctivitis — the sticky, crusted, glued-shut kind.
