Product overview
About Canesten Cream 20g
The original Canesten: clotrimazole 1% in a light, non-greasy cream that treats the whole family of fungal skin infections, from athlete's foot, ringworm and jock itch to sweat rash in skin folds, fungal nappy rash, and the external itching of thrush in women and men. The 20g tube is the size for a single infection. Pharmacy pack with the P mark.
Why clotrimazole
Clotrimazole kills both the dermatophyte fungi behind athlete's foot and ringworm and the Candida yeast behind thrush and nappy rash, which is why one tube covers so much. It works at the site without being absorbed, so it's suitable for babies' nappy areas and for adults' most delicate skin alike. The catch is patience: fungi return if treatment stops the day the itch does.
How to use
Wash and dry the area, then rub in a thin layer two or three times a day. Keep going for at least two weeks for thrush or nappy rash and at least four weeks for athlete's foot, ringworm or jock itch, continuing for a fortnight after the skin looks normal. For athlete's foot, dry between the toes and treat both feet.
Good to know
It can damage latex condoms and diaphragms for five days after use. Keep it away from the eyes. If there's no improvement after four weeks, or the infection involves the scalp or nails, see a pharmacist or GP. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I use it?
Two weeks for thrush or nappy rash, four weeks for athlete's foot, ringworm or jock itch, and always two weeks past the point the skin looks clear.
Can I use it on a baby's nappy rash?
Yes — clotrimazole is licensed for fungal nappy rash, the kind with bright red patches and spots that ordinary barrier creams don't settle. Ask a pharmacist if you're unsure it's fungal.
Is this the same as Canesten Athlete's Foot cream?
Same clotrimazole 1%. This is the pharmacy pack licensed for the full range of fungal infections, including thrush and nappy rash, rather than the foot-only general-sale tube.
