Paracetamol — dose by age, 4 doses in 24 hours
Use the carton dose for the child's age, leave at least four hours between doses and never give more than four doses in 24 hours. Don't give any other paracetamol product at the same time. Not for more than three days without a doctor's advice. Babies of 2 to 3 months: for post-vaccination fever only, two doses at most, unless a doctor says otherwise.
When a child needs a doctor
Seek urgent help for a baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C or more, a rash that doesn't fade under a glass, a stiff neck, unusual drowsiness or a high-pitched cry, difficulty breathing, a fit, or a child who isn't drinking or has dry nappies. A fever lasting more than three days needs a GP.

Product overview

About Calpol SixPlus Sugar Free 100ml

Calpol for bigger children: SixPlus doubles the strength to paracetamol 250mg/5ml, so a 6 to 12-year-old gets a proper dose in a spoonful rather than half a bottle, for fever, headache, sore throat, earache, toothache and the aches of colds and flu. Colour-free and sugar-free strawberry suspension with a measuring syringe. 100ml bottle, pharmacy pack.

Why SixPlus

Children over 6 need 250mg or more per dose; in Infant Calpol that's 10ml and rising, which is a lot of syrup and a lot of sweetener. SixPlus halves the volume, and because it's licensed up to adults, it doubles as a liquid paracetamol for anyone who can't swallow tablets. The 100ml bottle covers a short illness; both are pharmacy packs.

How to give

Use the syringe and the carton table: 6 to 8 years 5ml; 8 to 10 years 7.5ml; 10 to 12 years 10ml; 12 to 16 years 10 to 15ml; adults 10 to 20ml. Up to four times a day, at least four hours apart, no more than four doses in 24 hours. Not for under-6s: use Calpol Infant. Not for more than three days without a doctor's advice.

Good to know

Never give any other paracetamol product at the same time, including cold and flu remedies. A fever lasting more than three days, a rash that doesn't fade, a stiff neck, unusual drowsiness or breathing difficulty needs a doctor. Contains sorbitol and maltitol. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
