An expectorant for a productive cough in children aged 6 to 12; not for under-6s. Don't give with a cough suppressant or any other cough and cold medicine. Ask a pharmacist first if the child has asthma. No more than five days without a doctor's advice. Contains sorbitol.
See a GP if the cough persists
A cough lasting more than three weeks, coughing up blood, breathlessness or wheeze, chest pain, a high fever that won't settle, or a cough in someone with a long-term lung condition needs a GP rather than another bottle. Not for more than a few days at a time.

An expectorant made for children: guaifenesin at a child's strength, in a sugar-free, colour-free syrup that thins and loosens the mucus behind a chesty cough so a 6 to 12-year-old can cough it up and clear their chest. Absorbs in 15 minutes. Non-drowsy, so it's fine for school days. 125ml bottle, pharmacy-only.

Why an expectorant

A chesty cough is the body clearing mucus, and suppressing it can leave the chest congested. Guaifenesin makes the mucus thinner so each cough does more, which is the sensible approach for a productive cough in a child. It's the daytime partner to Benylin Children's Night Coughs.

How to give

Children 6 to 12: 10ml four times a day, using the measuring cup, no more than 40ml in 24 hours. Not for under-6s. Give for up to five days; if the cough isn't improving, see a pharmacist or GP. Encourage plenty of fluids, which help the guaifenesin work.

Good to know

Don't give with a cough suppressant or any other cough and cold medicine. Ask a pharmacist first if the child has asthma. A cough with wheeze, breathlessness, a high fever or lasting more than three weeks needs a GP. Contains sorbitol. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
