Paracetamol — dose by age, 4 doses in 24 hours
Use the carton dose for the child's age, leave at least four hours between doses and never give more than four doses in 24 hours. Don't give any other paracetamol product at the same time. Not for more than three days without a doctor's advice. Babies of 2 to 3 months: for post-vaccination fever only, two doses at most, unless a doctor says otherwise.
When a child needs a doctor
Seek urgent help for a baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C or more, a rash that doesn't fade under a glass, a stiff neck, unusual drowsiness or a high-pitched cry, difficulty breathing, a fit, or a child who isn't drinking or has dry nappies. A fever lasting more than three days needs a GP.

Product overview

About Calpol Infant Sugar Free 200ml

The paracetamol suspension every parent knows, in the large pharmacy bottle: Calpol Infant Sugar Free brings down fever and eases the pain of teething, colds, sore throats, earache and post-vaccination fever in babies and children from 2 months to 6 years. Strawberry flavour, sugar-free, with a measuring syringe. 200ml, roughly twice the general-sale bottle, so it's there when you need it at 3am.

Why the 200ml is pharmacy-only

Paracetamol liquids above 100ml are pharmacy medicines, supplied after a short questionnaire, because the extra volume needs the extra check on how it's dosed and stored. For a family with more than one small child, or a baby in the middle of a run of colds, it's the sensible size. Sugar-free suits teeth and children on restricted diets; it's sweetened with maltitol and sorbitol.

How to give

Use the syringe and the carton table: 3 to 6 months 2.5ml; 6 to 24 months 5ml; 2 to 4 years 7.5ml; 4 to 6 years 10ml. Leave at least four hours between doses and give no more than four doses in 24 hours. Babies of 2 to 3 months: 2.5ml for post-vaccination fever, repeated once after four to six hours if needed, and otherwise only on a doctor's advice. Not for more than three days without checking with a doctor.

Good to know

Never give any other paracetamol product at the same time, including cold remedies. A baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C or more, a rash that doesn't fade under a glass, a stiff neck, unusual drowsiness, breathing difficulty or a fit needs urgent medical help. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
