About Benadryl Allergy Children's

The children's antihistamine from Benadryl: cetirizine 1mg/ml in a sugar-free, colour-free tutti-frutti oral solution for hayfever, pet, dust and skin allergies in children from 2 years. Cetirizine works within an hour and lasts all day, with far less drowsiness than the old-style allergy syrups. 120ml bottle with a dosing cup, pharmacy-only.

Why cetirizine for children

Cetirizine is the antihistamine GPs prescribe for young children because it has decades of use behind it and a dose for every age from 2 up. It relieves the sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and itchy skin of allergies without the heavy sedation of chlorphenamine, so a child can get on with school and sleep normally.

How to give

Children 2 to 6 years: 2.5ml twice a day. Children 6 to 12 years: 5ml twice a day. Children over 12 and adults: 10ml once a day. Measure with the cup provided. Not for children under 2. It can be given with or without food.

Good to know

Some children get drowsy on cetirizine; watch the first few doses. Ask a pharmacist first if the child has kidney problems or epilepsy. Contains sorbitol. Hives with swelling of the face or lips, or wheeze, need urgent medical help rather than an antihistamine. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
