Product overview
About Brolene Eye Drops
The original Brolene: propamidine isetionate 0.1%, an antiseptic eye drop for minor eye infections such as mild conjunctivitis, blepharitis and styes. It works against the common bacteria behind a sore, gritty, slightly sticky eye without using an antibiotic, so it's the sensible first step for an infection caught early. 10ml dropper bottle, available after a short check.
Antiseptic first, antibiotic if needed
Reaching for chloramphenicol at the first sign of a red eye adds to antibiotic use for infections that often don't need it. Propamidine treats the mild, early infection; if there's no clear improvement after two days, or the discharge is thick and yellow from the start, switch to Brolene Antibiotic drops or see a pharmacist.
How to use
One or two drops into the affected eye up to four times a day. Wash hands before and after, don't let the dropper touch the eye, and take contact lenses out before using it (wait 15 minutes before putting them back, and ideally leave them out during treatment). Discard the bottle 28 days after opening.
Good to know
If there's no significant improvement after two days, stop and get the eye looked at. Pain, light sensitivity, a change in vision or a very swollen lid needs a pharmacist, optician or GP the same day. Ask first if pregnant or breastfeeding. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
Is this an antibiotic?
No — propamidine is an antiseptic. Brolene Antibiotic (chloramphenicol) is the antibiotic version for bacterial conjunctivitis with thick discharge.
How long can I use it?
If the eye isn't clearly better after two days, stop and get it looked at.
Can I use it with contact lenses?
Take them out before each dose and wait 15 minutes; better still, leave them out until the eye is fully better.
