Product overview
About Anthisan Cream
The antihistamine cream for insect bites, stings and nettle rash: Anthisan is mepyramine maleate 2%, which blocks the histamine your skin releases when a wasp, mosquito or nettle strikes, calming the itch, redness and swelling where it starts. The tube for the picnic bag and the first-aid kit. 25g, suitable for adults and children.
Why an antihistamine cream
Steroid creams damp down inflammation in general; Anthisan targets the histamine itself, which is what makes a bite itch. Applied early it breaks the scratch-inflame-scratch cycle that turns a bite into a week-long welt, and unlike an antihistamine tablet it works where it's put, with no drowsiness.
How to use
Apply to the bite, sting or rash two or three times a day for up to three days. Remove a bee sting first by scraping it sideways with a fingernail or card. Wash hands after use and keep it away from eyes and mouth.
Good to know
Not for eczema or broken skin, and not for more than a few days at a time; stop if the skin becomes more irritated. Swelling of the face, lips or throat, wheeze, dizziness or a spreading rash after a sting is an emergency: call 999. A bite that becomes hot, spreading and painful may be infected and needs a GP. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
Anthisan or hydrocortisone cream?
Anthisan blocks the histamine that makes a bite itch and can be used on children; hydrocortisone 1% cream reduces inflammation and is the fallback for a bite that's swollen and angry.
Can children use it?
Yes — the licence covers adults, the elderly and children, two or three times a day for up to three days.
When should I see a doctor?
Any swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty or dizziness after a sting is an emergency. A bite that's hot, red and spreading after a day or two may be infected.
