Product overview
About Allevia Hives
The 180mg fexofenadine tablet for chronic hives: one non-drowsy tablet a day relieves the itching, redness and raised wheals of chronic idiopathic urticaria for 24 hours. The same antihistamine as Allevia hayfever tablets, at the higher dose that urticaria needs. Pharmacy-only, for adults and children over 12. 15 tablets.
Why 180mg
Hives that keep coming back for six weeks or more are usually not an allergy at all but a skin reaction, and the standard 120mg hayfever dose is often not enough. The 180mg dose is the one licensed for chronic urticaria, and because fexofenadine doesn't cross into the brain it stays non-drowsy at this strength.
How to take
Adults and children over 12: one tablet once a day, swallowed with water before a meal. Avoid taking it with fruit juice, which reduces absorption. Take it every day while the hives are active rather than waiting for them to appear.
Good to know
For hives a doctor has diagnosed as chronic urticaria, or hives that have lasted more than six weeks; a first outbreak with swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing, is an emergency. Ask a pharmacist first if you have kidney or liver problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take antacids containing aluminium or magnesium. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Allevia 120mg?
Same antihistamine, higher dose. 120mg is the hayfever strength; 180mg is the dose licensed for chronic urticaria, and it's pharmacy-only.
Is it non-drowsy?
Yes — fexofenadine is one of the least sedating antihistamines even at 180mg. Check how you feel before driving the first time.
What if the hives don't settle?
If they persist despite daily treatment, or you get swelling of the face or throat, see your GP — chronic urticaria sometimes needs a higher dose or a different approach.
