Product overview
About Voltarol Back & Muscle Gel
Targeted anti-inflammatory relief you rub exactly where it hurts: Voltarol's 1.16% diclofenac gel penetrates the skin to reduce inflammation and pain in strained backs, pulled muscles, sprains and sports knocks — NSAID power, delivered locally instead of swallowed. The generous 100g tube.
Why a gel instead of tablets
Rubbed-in diclofenac concentrates at the injury with only a fraction reaching the bloodstream — so you get genuine anti-inflammatory action with far less of the stomach exposure oral NSAIDs bring. For a single sore spot, targeted beats systemic.
How to use
Adults and children 14+: apply a cherry-to-walnut-sized amount to the painful area and rub in gently, 3–4 times daily. Wash hands after. Don't cover with airtight dressings.
Good to know
Still an NSAID: avoid if you've had reactions to aspirin or ibuprofen, don't use on broken skin, and keep it off during the last trimester of pregnancy. If pain hasn't improved in 7 days, get it assessed — backs that stay bad deserve better than indefinite gel.

Frequently asked questions
Is the gel as good as tablets?
For a localised strain or sprain, often yes — the diclofenac concentrates at the sore spot with much less reaching the bloodstream, so you trade body-wide dosing for targeted action.
How often do I apply it?
3–4 times daily, a cherry-to-walnut amount rubbed gently into the painful area. Wash your hands afterwards.
Can I use it with ibuprofen tablets?
Avoid combining NSAIDs without advice — even topical + oral adds up. Ask our pharmacist about pairing it with paracetamol instead.
