About Tiger Balm Red

The little hexagonal jar found in gym bags on every continent: Tiger Balm's original red ointment, blending camphor and menthol with cajuput and clove oils to warm through muscular aches, stiff necks and knotted shoulders. 19g — a jar lasts months.

A century of the same formula

Red is the stronger, warming Tiger Balm — the one for deep muscular aches (White is the milder cousin for headachy temples). A fingertip's worth massaged in goes further than seems plausible, which is how 19g earns its keep.

How to use

Massage a small amount into the affected area 2–3 times daily, unbroken skin only. Wash hands thoroughly after — clove and menthol are unforgiving near eyes.

Good to know

The red tint can mark pale fabrics. Strong warming isn't for young children or sensitive skin — and as with all rubs, it eases muscular aches rather than treating what caused them.
