Product overview

About Otrivine Sinusitis Relief

The fast decongestant for a face-ache cold: one spray of xylometazoline opens the nasal passages within minutes and keeps them open for up to ten hours, easing the pressure and pain of blocked sinuses so you can breathe, sleep and get on with the day. For adults and children from 12, for up to seven days. 10ml metered pump.

Why xylometazoline for sinus pain

Sinus pressure comes from swollen tissue blocking the drainage channels. Xylometazoline narrows the blood vessels in the lining so the swelling drops and the sinuses can drain, which is why it relieves the ache as well as the blockage. It's the strongest decongestant you can buy for the nose; the trade-off is the seven-day limit, because used longer it causes rebound congestion.

How to use

Adults and children over 12: one spray into each nostril, up to three times a day. Blow the nose first. Don't use for more than seven consecutive days; if the blockage persists, switch to a seawater spray and see a pharmacist.

Good to know

Not for under-12s. Not suitable with narrow-angle glaucoma or MAOI antidepressants, and ask a pharmacist first if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, an overactive thyroid or an enlarged prostate. Sinus pain with a high fever, swelling around the eye, or lasting more than ten days needs a GP.
