Product overview
About Nexium Control
For heartburn that keeps coming back rather than turning up occasionally: esomeprazole 20mg is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the acid your stomach produces in the first place. One tablet daily, lasting 24 hours — a completely different approach from antacids that neutralise acid after the fact. 14 tablets.
How a PPI differs from an antacid
Antacids and alginates work in minutes and wear off in hours, which suits occasional heartburn. A PPI takes a day or so to build its effect but then holds acid production down around the clock — the right tool when heartburn is a pattern rather than an event. Many people keep both.
How to take
Adults 18+: one tablet daily, swallowed whole with water, ideally before a meal. It may take 2–3 days for full effect. Take a course of up to 14 days; if symptoms persist, see your GP.
Good to know
PPIs interact with several medicines — including clopidogrel — so run it past our pharmacist if you take anything regularly. And frequent heartburn beyond a fortnight, difficulty swallowing or weight loss should be properly investigated rather than managed indefinitely.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Gaviscon?
Gaviscon blocks and neutralises acid within minutes and wears off in hours. Nexium reduces how much acid you make, over 24 hours — better for frequent heartburn, slower for a one-off.
How long until it works?
It can take 2–3 days for full effect, so give it time. Keep an antacid for breakthrough symptoms in the meantime.
Can I keep taking it?
Courses run to 14 days. If heartburn continues beyond that, see your GP rather than repeating indefinitely.
