About Imodium Original
Imodium is the emergency brake for acute diarrhoea: loperamide 2mg restores the bowel's normal rhythm and slows everything back down, often within an hour of the first dose. Six capsules — the pocket pack for holidays, commutes, interviews and every other moment diarrhoea picks badly.
How it works
Loperamide acts on the gut wall to calm overactive contractions and let the bowel reabsorb fluid — as the pack puts it, restoring the bowel to its normal rhythm. It treats the symptom brilliantly; pair it with rehydration (water or Dioralyte), because replacing lost fluid is the other half of getting better.
How to take
Adults and children over 12: two capsules to start, then one after each further loose stool — maximum six capsules in 24 hours. If diarrhoea persists beyond 48 hours, stop and see a doctor.
When not to take it
Skip Imodium and see a doctor if there's blood in stools, a high fever, or severe tummy pain — slowing the bowel can be the wrong move in dysentery-type infections. Not for children under 12 over the counter.
