Contains a local anaesthetic
Lidocaine can occasionally cause sensitivity with prolonged use. Stop if the area becomes more irritated, and do not use for longer than the label allows.
Always get rectal bleeding checked
Never assume bleeding is piles. Bleeding, a change in bowel habit, a lump or unexplained weight loss must be assessed by a GP — the same symptoms can have far more serious causes.
Stop after 7 days
If symptoms have not improved within 7 days, see your GP or pharmacist rather than continuing.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Piles are common in pregnancy — check with your midwife, pharmacist or GP before using any treatment.

Internal or external — they need different things

External piles respond to ointment applied to the skin. Internal ones sit above the anal margin, and no amount of cream on the outside will treat them properly. Suppositories put the medicine exactly where the problem is, which is why they often work when weeks of cream haven't.

How to use

Adults and children 12 and over: insert one suppository as directed, usually morning and night and after a bowel movement. Easier lying on your side with knees drawn up. Not for children under 12.

Good to know

See a doctor if there's no improvement within 7 days. And any rectal bleeding needs proper assessment — do not simply treat it and hope. Fibre, fluids and avoiding straining prevent recurrence better than anything in this box.
