Contains a local anaesthetic
Lidocaine can occasionally cause sensitivity with prolonged use. Stop if the area becomes more irritated, and do not use for longer than the label allows.
Always get rectal bleeding checked
Never assume bleeding is piles. Bleeding, a change in bowel habit, a lump or unexplained weight loss must be assessed by a GP — the same symptoms can have far more serious causes.
Stop after 7 days
If symptoms have not improved within 7 days, see your GP or pharmacist rather than continuing.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Piles are common in pregnancy — check with your midwife, pharmacist or GP before using any treatment.

Why a local anaesthetic matters here

Lidocaine numbs the area directly, while zinc oxide acts as an astringent that helps shrink the swollen tissue and forms a protective barrier over sore skin. The numbing buys comfort; the zinc does the slower work.

How to use

Adults and children 12 and over: apply as directed on the pack, morning and night and after each bowel movement. Cleanse and pat the area dry first. Not for children under 12.

Good to know

See your doctor if symptoms have not improved within 7 days. And the boring advice genuinely works: more fibre, more water, don't strain, and don't sit on the toilet reading your phone — that alone causes a remarkable number of piles.
