Product overview

About Gaviscon Advance Aniseed

Gaviscon Advance is the extra-strength formula of the UK's favourite reflux remedy: double the sodium alginate of regular Gaviscon, forming a stronger, longer-lasting raft on top of your stomach contents that physically blocks acid reflux, heartburn and indigestion. Aniseed flavour, 250ml bottle — the one regular sufferers keep by the bed.

How the raft works

Unlike antacids that neutralise acid chemically, alginate reacts with stomach acid to build a gel barrier — a raft — that floats where your stomach meets your gullet. Acid stays where it belongs, which is why Gaviscon suits reflux (the acid-escaping problem) rather than just excess-acid indigestion. Advance's concentrated formula means smaller doses: 5–10ml after meals and at bedtime.

How to take

Adults and children 12+: 5–10ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. Shake well first. Suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding — heartburn's favourite audiences — but check with your midwife or pharmacist first.

Good to know

Contains sodium and potassium — if you're on a restricted-salt diet or have kidney or heart conditions, talk to your pharmacist. Heartburn most days for three weeks or more, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained weight loss need a GP, not more Gaviscon.
