About Gaviscon Advance Aniseed
Gaviscon Advance is the extra-strength version of the reflux classic — double the sodium alginate of standard Gaviscon, forming a stronger, longer-lasting raft that physically blocks acid from rising. For acid reflux symptoms, heartburn and indigestion that regular antacids don't hold back. Aniseed flavour, 150ml bottle.
The raft, explained
Alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel raft that floats on the stomach contents and plugs the top of the stomach — mechanical reflux control rather than acid neutralising alone. It's why Gaviscon Advance works on the reflux that laughs at chewable antacids, and why it's a mainstay for night-time reflux: the raft holds while you lie down.
How to take
5–10ml after meals and at bedtime — the bedtime dose is the one night-time refluxers shouldn't skip. Suitable for adults and children over 12; widely used in pregnancy heartburn, but run it past your pharmacist or midwife first as with anything.
When reflux needs more than Gaviscon
Heartburn most days for three weeks or more, difficulty swallowing, food sticking, unexplained weight loss or vomiting — see your GP rather than re-buying relief. Persistent reflux is treatable, and occasionally it's a symptom that needs ruling out.
