About Cymex Cream
The cold sore cream that works at every stage: Cymex soothes the sting, keeps the sore moist so it doesn't crack and bleed, and its antibacterial ingredients help stop the broken skin picking up an infection while it heals. It does the same for chapped, split lips in winter. Suitable for adults and children, applied sparingly every hour. 5g tube.
Why an antibacterial, moisturising cream
Antiviral creams only help if you start in the first day or two; most cold sores are caught later, once the blister has burst. That's when Cymex earns its place: dimeticone forms a protective, water-resistant layer over the sore, urea softens the crust so it doesn't crack, and cetrimide and chlorocresol keep bacteria out of the raw skin, which is what turns a five-day cold sore into a two-week one.
How to use
Apply a small amount to the cold sore or cracked lip every hour, with a clean fingertip or cotton bud, and wash your hands afterwards. Keep using it until the skin has healed over. Don't share the tube.
Good to know
For external use only; keep away from the eyes. It contains cetostearyl alcohol, which can cause a local skin reaction in some people. Ask a pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, and see one if a sore isn't healing after 10 days, spreads, sits near the eye or keeps returning. Frequently asked questions
Is Cymex an antiviral?
No. It protects, soothes and keeps the sore from getting infected while it heals. If you catch the tingle within 48 hours, an aciclovir cream can shorten the attack, and Cymex can be used alongside it.
How long does a cold sore take to heal?
Usually 7 to 10 days from tingle to clear skin. Keeping it moist and uninfected is what stops it dragging on; see a pharmacist if it's still there after 10 days.
Can children use it?
Yes, the same sparing hourly application. Keep cold sores away from babies and don't let a child with one share cups or towels.
