Contains sugar and a little alcohol
Each 5ml dose contains around 1.3g glucose and 1.3g sucrose (2.6g sugar) and 282mg ethanol; take this into account if you have diabetes, and don't use with a heart condition. Not for children under 5.

The cough lasts more than three weeks, brings up blood or coloured phlegm with a fever, or comes with breathlessness, chest pain or unexplained weight loss.

About Covonia Mucus Cough Oral Solution

Covonia's mentholated mixture under its new name. Mucus Cough Oral Solution is the same levomenthol, squill and liquorice formula that has cleared thick, chesty coughs since 1968, relabelled to say what it does: loosens mucus so it can be coughed up, with a menthol hit that opens the chest. Non-drowsy, traditional flavour, 300ml bottle.

Why it works

Squill and liquorice are traditional expectorants that thin sticky phlegm; levomenthol vapour rises through the airways as you swallow, so the chest feels clearer within minutes. Vegetarian and vegan, with no nuts, artificial colours or artificial flavours.

How to take

Adults and children over 12: one or two 5ml spoonfuls every four hours as needed. Children 5 to 12: one 5ml spoonful every four hours. Not for under-5s.

Good to know

Each dose contains about 2.6g of sugar and a small amount of alcohol, so allow for it with diabetes, and don't use with a heart condition. See a GP for a cough lasting more than three weeks or with breathlessness, chest pain or blood. The 150ml bottle is the one to try first.
