Read the pack instructions before use and don't exceed the stated number of applications. Stop and ask a pharmacist if symptoms get worse or last longer than the pack suggests.
Not with a perforated eardrum
Don't use if you have, or may have, a perforated eardrum, grommets, ear surgery in the last six months, or discharge from the ear. Stop and see a pharmacist or GP if pain is severe, hearing drops suddenly, or symptoms last more than a few days: a middle-ear infection needs assessing, not drops.

Product overview

About Cl-ear Ear Relief Ear Drops

Drops for the sore, itchy outer ear: Cl-ear Ear Relief reduces the painful inflammation and itching of an irritated ear canal and removes the trapped water that causes it after swimming, showering or a hot day, so the ear can settle before it turns into swimmer's ear. CE-marked device, from the Cl-ear range of ear care. 7g dropper bottle.

Why dry the ear

Water that stays in the ear canal softens the skin and lets bacteria and fungi take hold, which is the usual route to otitis externa: the itchy, then painful, then weeping outer ear that swimmers and hearing-aid wearers know. Drying the canal and calming the skin early stops the cycle. Cl-ear works on the canal itself; it isn't an antibiotic and doesn't treat a middle-ear infection behind the eardrum.

How to use

Tilt the head, put the stated number of drops into the ear and keep the head tilted for a minute, then let any excess run out onto a tissue. Use after swimming or showering, or two to three times a day while the ear is sore or itchy, for as long as the pack directs. Check the pack for the minimum age.

Good to know

Not with a perforated eardrum, grommets, recent ear surgery or any discharge. Severe pain, a sudden drop in hearing, fever, or symptoms that last more than a few days need a pharmacist or GP; a middle-ear infection needs assessing, not drops. For wax rather than water, Earol olive oil spray softens it. See our ear care range.
