Product overview

About Care Clove Oil

The oldest trick in the toothache book, properly bottled: clove oil for the temporary relief of toothache. Its natural eugenol has a mild numbing action on the painful tooth, buying comfort until a dentist can deal with the cause. 10ml dropper-topped bottle — a first-aid-kit essential.

Why clove oil

Eugenol, the main component of clove oil, has been used in dentistry for over a century as a local anaesthetic and antiseptic. Applied to an aching tooth it dulls the pain quickly — handy when the toothache arrives on a Saturday night and the dentist opens Monday.

How to use

Put a drop or two onto a small piece of cotton wool and hold it against the painful tooth or in the cavity for a few minutes. Keep it off the gums, lips and tongue — undiluted clove oil irritates soft tissue — and don't swallow it. Repeat as needed per the label.

Good to know

It relieves the symptom, not the cause: a tooth that hurts has a problem a dentist needs to see. Swelling of the face or gum, fever, or pain that keeps you awake is an urgent dental appointment. Not for young children — check the label.
