Pseudoephedrine — one pack per sale
Not suitable with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, severe kidney disease, or within 14 days of an MAOI antidepressant. Stop and seek urgent help for a sudden severe headache, confusion, seizures or vision changes. Sale is limited to one pseudoephedrine pack.
Diphenhydramine — causes drowsiness
A sedating antihistamine: don't drive or use machinery after a dose, and avoid alcohol. Not with any other diphenhydramine product, including night-time sleep aids such as Nytol. Ask a pharmacist first with glaucoma, prostate or bladder problems, epilepsy, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contains paracetamol
Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing product. Never exceed the stated dose — overdose can cause serious liver damage.

About Benylin Day & Night

Round-the-clock cold and flu relief in two tablets: 12 white day tablets pair paracetamol with pseudoephedrine to clear a blocked nose and keep you going, and four blue night tablets pair paracetamol with diphenhydramine to ease catarrh and help you sleep. Four days of 24-hour cover, pharmacy-only, for adults and children over 12.

Why day and night are different

The daytime enemy is congestion, so the day tablet carries pseudoephedrine, the decongestant that actually opens the nose but can keep you awake. At night the priority flips: the night tablet drops the decongestant and adds a sedating antihistamine, which dries the drip that makes you cough lying down. Same paracetamol in both for fever, aches and sore throat.

How to take

Adults and children over 12: one white tablet every four to six hours during the day, up to three, and one blue tablet at bedtime, no more than four tablets in 24 hours. Not for under-12s. Don't take with any other paracetamol, decongestant or cold and flu product. If you're no better after a few days, see a pharmacist or GP.

Good to know

The night tablet causes drowsiness: no driving, no alcohol. Pseudoephedrine isn't suitable with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma or within 14 days of an MAOI antidepressant; the questionnaire checks each. This pack is the legal maximum of pseudoephedrine per sale, so one per order. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
