Product overview

About Anbesol Adult Strength Gel

Britain's best-known mouth ulcer gel at adult strength: lidocaine numbs the pain within minutes, while two antiseptics — chlorocresol and cetylpyridinium chloride — help keep the ulcer or sore spot clean so it can heal. Sugar-free, and it stays where you put it. For mouth ulcers and denture irritation, ages 12 and over. 10g tube.

Why numb and clean together

A mouth ulcer hurts because raw tissue meets food, teeth and bacteria a thousand times a day. Lidocaine switches the nerve signal off so you can eat and talk; the antiseptics reduce the bacterial load that keeps the sore inflamed. Denture rubs get the same double treatment while the fit is sorted.

How to use

Dry the area, apply a small amount of gel with a clean fingertip and leave it to work — the numbness starts within a couple of minutes. Repeat as directed on the pack. Don't use for more than seven days without advice.

Good to know

Adult strength is 12+ and not for teething. Avoid very hot food or drink while numb. An ulcer that lasts more than three weeks, keeps returning, or isn't painful at all should be seen by a dentist or GP.
