About Alka-Seltzer Original

Bayer's fizzing classic: aspirin in an effervescent tablet that dissolves in water and gets to work fast on headaches, aches and pains. The bicarbonate that makes it fizz also makes it gentler on the stomach than swallowing a dry aspirin tablet — the reason Alka-Seltzer has been the morning-after go-to for generations. 20 tablets.

Why effervescent

A dissolved painkiller is already in solution when it hits the stomach, so it's absorbed faster than a tablet that has to break down first. Alka-Seltzer's sodium bicarbonate buffers the aspirin too — quicker onset, less stomach grumble, and a drink of water in the bargain when you need it most.

How to take

Drop the tablets into a glass of water, let them dissolve completely, and drink. Follow the pack for dose and spacing, and never exceed the stated maximum in 24 hours. Adults and children over 16 only.

Good to know

Aspirin rules apply: not under 16, and not with stomach ulcers, bleeding disorders, aspirin-sensitive asthma or blood thinners without pharmacist advice. Each tablet carries a fair dose of sodium — worth knowing on a low-salt diet.
