Product overview

About Bell's Eucalyptus Oil

The pharmacy-shelf original for a blocked nose: pure eucalyptus oil BP, used by steam inhalation or on a tissue to ease the congestion and catarrh of colds. A few drops go a long way, so the 25ml bottle sees a household through several winters. Bell's, the Lancashire pharmacy house that's bottled it for generations.

Why eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil's sharp, clean vapour cools the airways and makes a stuffy nose feel open — the same idea as a vapour rub, in its purest form. It suits people who'd rather not take a decongestant tablet, and it pairs well with menthol crystals in a bowl of hot water for the full old-school steam.

How to use

Add a few drops to a bowl of hot (not boiling) water, lean over with a towel over the head and breathe the steam for five to ten minutes; or put a few drops on a tissue or handkerchief to inhale through the day. For external use and inhalation only — never swallow. Check the label for the minimum age.

Good to know

Eucalyptus oil is toxic if swallowed and must be kept well away from children. Don't apply it neat to skin or near the eyes, and never use steam inhalation with young children. A cold that lasts beyond ten days, or comes with sinus pain and fever, needs a pharmacist or GP.
