About Lemsip
Lemsip is one of the UK's best-known cold and flu brands, famous for its hot lemon drinks that ease the aches, blocked nose, sore throat and fever of colds and flu. The range also includes capsules and Max-strength products.
Most Lemsip products are based on paracetamol, sometimes combined with a decongestant to clear a stuffy nose or caffeine to help you feel less tired.
Browse the Lemsip range below, dispatched from our UK pharmacy. Always read the label and the patient information leaflet; Lemsip contains paracetamol, so take care not to use it with other paracetamol products, and speak to your pharmacist for advice.
Frequently asked questions
What does Lemsip do?
Lemsip relieves the symptoms of colds and flu, such as aches, headache, sore throat, a blocked nose and a high temperature. It eases symptoms with paracetamol, sometimes alongside a decongestant, rather than curing the infection.
Can you take Lemsip when pregnant?
The paracetamol in Lemsip is usually considered suitable in pregnancy, but some Lemsip products also contain a decongestant or caffeine that may not be advised. Check the specific product and speak to your midwife, pharmacist or GP first.
Can you take Lemsip with paracetamol?
No. Most Lemsip products already contain paracetamol, so taking extra paracetamol on top risks a dangerous overdose. Do not combine them, and leave the recommended gap before taking any other paracetamol.
How much paracetamol is in Lemsip?
Most Lemsip sachets contain either 650mg or, in the Max-strength versions, 1000mg of paracetamol per dose. Never take more than 4000mg (4g) of paracetamol from all sources in 24 hours.
Can you take ibuprofen with Lemsip?
Ibuprofen is a different type of medicine and can usually be taken alongside a paracetamol-based Lemsip, but check the label and do not add any more paracetamol. A pharmacist can confirm what is suitable for you.
Does Lemsip have caffeine?
Some Lemsip Max products contain caffeine to help you feel less tired, while others do not. Check the pack, particularly if you are taking it later in the day or are sensitive to caffeine.
How many Lemsips can you have in a day?
Because Lemsip contains paracetamol, stick to the maximum on the pack, which is usually up to four sachets in 24 hours, spaced at least four hours apart. Do not take other paracetamol at the same time.
Does Lemsip make you sleepy?
Standard daytime Lemsip is not designed to make you drowsy, and any decongestant in it may even keep you alert. Some night-time cold and flu products contain a sedating ingredient, so always check the specific pack.
Is Lemsip banned?
Lemsip is not banned in the UK and is widely available. Confusion can arise from pharmacy limits on how much of certain decongestant ingredients can be bought, or from news about how well some decongestants work - always follow the label.
