Product overview
About TCP Liquid Antiseptic
TCP is the antiseptic liquid with the famous smell and a century of British bathroom cabinets behind it. It soothes pain and fights infection across an unusually wide brief: sore throats and mouth ulcers (diluted as a gargle or dab), plus cuts, grazes, bites, stings and spots. 50ml bottle of the Original.
One bottle, many jobs
TCP's halogenated phenols kill the bacteria that infect broken skin and inflame sore throats. Diluted, it's a gargle for the first scratchy day of a throat; neat, it's a dab-on antiseptic for spots and stings; diluted again, it cleanses grazes before covering. Few bottles in the cabinet earn their space so many ways.
How to use
Sore throat: gargle with TCP diluted 1 part to 5 parts water, twice a day — don't swallow. Mouth ulcers: dab neat with a cotton bud, or use the same dilution as a rinse. Cuts and grazes: dilute 1:1 to cleanse. Spots, bites, stings: dab on neat. Always read the label.
When to get advice
A sore throat lasting over a week, trouble swallowing, mouth ulcers that don't heal in 3 weeks, or wounds showing infection — all need a pharmacist or GP rather than more TCP.

Frequently asked questions
How do I gargle with TCP?
Dilute 1 part TCP with 5 parts water and gargle twice a day — and don't swallow it. It's best at the first scratchy sign of a sore throat.
Can I put TCP on spots?
Yes — dab it on neat with clean cotton wool. The antiseptic action helps stop spots getting infected and angrier. The smell fades; the spot usually does too.
Does TCP help mouth ulcers?
Yes — dab neat on the ulcer with a cotton bud up to three times a day, or rinse with the 1:5 dilution. Ulcers that haven't healed in 3 weeks need a dentist or GP look.
Why does TCP smell like that?
The halogenated phenols — the actual antiseptic agents — are responsible for both the germ-killing and the unmistakable smell. It's the smell of it working.
