Product overview
About Savlon Antiseptic Cream
Savlon is Britain's default antiseptic cream: a dual-action formula of cetrimide and chlorhexidine that cleanses wounds and helps prevent infection. The pack lists its full range — first aid (cuts and grazes, insect bites and stings, minor burns and scalds, shaving cuts) and skin problems (blisters and sores, chapped skin, nappy rash, spots and blackheads, sunburn). This 15g tube is the handbag and travel size.
Two antiseptics, one cream
Cetrimide cleanses and disrupts bacteria at the wound surface; chlorhexidine keeps working against a broad range of bacteria to stop a graze becoming an infected graze. The soft cream base soothes as it treats — which is why it's as much a nursery staple as a first-aid one.
How to use
Clean the area, apply a thin layer of cream, and cover with a plaster or dressing if needed. Reapply once or twice daily until healed. Suitable for adults and children.
When to get advice
See a pharmacist or GP for deep or dirty wounds, animal or human bites, burns bigger than a postage stamp, or any wound that's spreading redness, swelling or pus — antiseptic cream is for the minor stuff.

Frequently asked questions
What is Savlon cream used for?
The pack lists ten jobs: cuts and grazes, insect bites and stings, minor burns and scalds, shaving cuts, blisters, chapped skin, nappy rash, spots and blackheads, sunburn — and as an antiseptic hand cream.
Savlon or Sudocrem?
Savlon is the antiseptic for fresh minor wounds — active infection prevention. Sudocrem is a zinc barrier cream that protects and soothes. Fresh cut: Savlon. Sore protected skin: Sudocrem.
Can I use it on spots?
Yes — it's licensed for spots and blackheads. A thin dab helps stop picked spots getting infected. Persistent acne deserves a proper treatment from a pharmacist.
Is it OK for children and babies?
Yes — it's licensed for nappy rash and family first aid. For babies, use a thin layer and see a pharmacist if skin looks infected.
