About Anusol Plus HC Ointment
Anusol's four-way action with hydrocortisone added: hydrocortisone acetate 0.25% to reduce inflammation, plus zinc oxide, bismuth and balsam of Peru to soothe itching, shrink swollen tissue and protect sore skin. For internal and external piles and anal itching in adults 18 and over. 15g tube with a nozzle for internal use, pharmacy-only.
Why the ointment
The ointment base stays put and forms a protective layer over sore, itchy skin, and the nozzle lets it reach just inside as well. Plain Anusol is general-sale; adding hydrocortisone makes Plus HC a pharmacy medicine, and the one for a flare-up that plain Anusol isn't calming.
How to use
Adults 18 and over: wash and dry the area, then apply thinly at night, in the morning and after each bowel movement, up to four times a day. For internal use, screw the nozzle on, insert gently and squeeze. Wash hands afterwards. Seven days at most.
Good to know
Hydrocortisone shouldn't be used for longer than a week, with a fungal, viral or other infection in the area, or in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Any bleeding from the back passage, piles for the first time, or symptoms not improving after seven days need a GP. Keep stools soft with fibre and water. Pharmacist-reviewed before dispatch.
