About the Newfoundland Cholesterol Self Test

A cholesterol test you do at your own kitchen table: finger-prick blood, results in 2 minutes, over 96% accuracy against lab methods. High cholesterol quietly furs up arteries for years before it announces itself as a heart attack or stroke — this is the £-and-2-minutes way to find out whether yours needs attention. 1 test kit.

Why check cholesterol at all

Cholesterol has no symptoms. It's a major driver of coronary artery disease — the UK's biggest killer — and it's fixable, through diet, activity and if needed statins. Everyone over 40 gets it checked in an NHS Health Check; a home test fills the years between, or the decades before.

How to use

Prick a clean fingertip with the lancet, apply the stated drop to the test, wait 2 minutes, and match the result against the reading card (readable up to 2 minutes 30). The leaflet explains the level bands.

What the result means

Raised results should go to your GP or pharmacist for a full lipid panel — total cholesterol alone doesn't split 'good' HDL from 'bad' LDL, which shapes what (if anything) needs doing. Normal results: retest periodically, especially if heart disease runs in the family.
