What is Ibuleve, and does it work?
Ibuleve is a topical pain relief gel or spray containing ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory, which you rub into the affected area to relieve muscular and joint pain. Applying it directly means it works on the painful area with less of the medicine reaching the rest of the body than a tablet, and many people find it helpful for localised aches.
How long does Ibuleve gel take to work?
You may feel some relief within a few hours of applying it, with the best results from using it regularly as directed over a few days. Massage it gently into the skin around the sore area, and do not exceed the number of applications on the pack.
Can you use Ibuleve gel and take ibuprofen?
Both Ibuleve and ibuprofen tablets are the same type of anti-inflammatory (NSAID), so although only a little is absorbed through the skin, it is best to check with a pharmacist before using them together, particularly regularly. They can advise whether the combination is right for you.
Can you use Ibuleve gel with paracetamol?
Yes - paracetamol is a different type of painkiller from ibuprofen, so it can generally be taken alongside Ibuleve gel for extra relief. Follow the dose on the paracetamol pack, and ask a pharmacist if you are unsure.
Can you use Ibuleve gel with blood thinners?
If you take blood-thinning medication such as warfarin, check with your pharmacist or GP before using Ibuleve, as anti-inflammatories can increase the risk of bleeding, even when applied to the skin. They will advise whether it is safe for you.
Can you use Ibuleve when pregnant?
Anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen are generally not recommended in pregnancy, especially in the later stages, so check with your pharmacist, midwife or GP before using Ibuleve. They can suggest a suitable alternative for your pain.
